This week we focussed on timing and using uncommon time signatures, which is the description of the Metre (1). While this is an area I know a decent amount about, I have always found it quite daunting to try and integrate them into my songs. While I have used 6/8 time quite a bit, time signatures like 7/4 and 5/4 are a bit more daunting to me. It can sometimes feel a bit too weird to me, which can make my music come off a bit forced and not true to myself. The band I joined for this week wrote in a way that was quite unconventional to how I write, so I didn’t feel like I was able to get my say in as much as in previous weeks. We also already had a piano player, so I was unable to participate in that regard. They also selected someone else to write lyrics and sing them, so I felt a little useless in that regard as well.
