We focussed heavily on the use of metaphors and similes during this class, which is the use of figurative language (1). It was interesting to come up with similes and metaphors and then try to construct lyric ideas out of them. It was then interesting to see what some of my classmates constructed, as it was fun to see how other people thought. It was somewhat difficult to turn these metaphors into a proper and fully fleshed out song, as we did not initially come up with a theme, to begin with. We ended up coming up with a song that could be interpreted in multiple ways, which somewhat fit the theme of simile and metaphor. Overall, I’ll attempt to use more metaphor and simile in my songs, as it can provide a tad more interest in songs.
Chords and Lyrics:
Verse: Aadd9, Gadd9, F#m7, Dmaj7
Warm lights like a cool breeze
Keep the blinds shut
Distant memories
Summer’s moonlight caught in a riptide
Reminiscing about what’s been
Pre: Dm7, Fmaj7, Dm7, G
But when the sunset sets
I tend to forget
What makes me feel alive
Ch: C6/9, Em7, C6/9, G
But if I think about it too much
I can’t live for what’s right now
Trapped in an endless loop
Stuck thinking about how
I think about it too much
Yeah I think about it too much x 4
